Kovacs for those who haven't read Morgan's first novel (which I'd recommend first--ALTERED CARBON is a terrific and fast paced read well written and well plotted)echoes classic noir anti-heroes like Philip Marlowe and Mike Hammer without being a pale imitation of either of these characters. Morgan clearly has thought out and plotted Kovacs' background as he may be in the tradition of these noir heroes but he is a full blown character all his own.As usual Morgan creates riveting action sequences. Personally I felt that this is probably the best Kovacs novel that Morgan has written although all three are very strong works. Morgan's hardbitten world may recall the cyperpunk world popularized by William Gibson and Bruce Sterling but he brings unique character to his novels with his Chandleresque prose style.I'd recommend Morgan's two other Kovacs' books first although it shouldn't stop you from picking up this book and enjoying it. Morgan deftly fills in the background on Kovacs and his universe without making it seem like he's giving us a recap of the other two books. This is his second best novel (his best to date is the recently released THIRTEEN which I'll be writing about shortly as well).I'd highly recommend this book and don't think that fans that enjoyed Morgan's other novels will be disappointed. He continues to grow as a writer and still hasn't lost the desire to entertain his readers.

Richard K. Morgan’s mind truly is a dark place, and Altered Carbon is an impressive work of dystopian sci-fi. If you watched the mini-series, read the novel. I liked both, but there are major differences between the novel and mini-series that make each worth your time.

Not for the fainthearted. Seriously.When someone asks me for a book recommendation, I do not recommend this book or series if the person is underage, or if the person likes fairies and fluffy dragons, or if the person has never read at least some of the Classic Science Fictions works.When someone asks me for a book recommendation, and I think that person is smart enough and tough enough to read hardcore blindingly brilliant Science Fiction, I will recommend this book and series with the caveat: "You will either get totally sucked in and miss days of your life, OR you will run screaming.Your mileage may vary.

Wow, I was not expecting the book to be this good when I bought it. I typically have lower standards for books on Kindle Daily Deals due to the some of the offerings I see and the lower prices, but this book was amazing sci-fi/noir mystery. The writing was great and the whole story flowed very well to an exciting conclusion. This is a pretty long book in a very good way, I couldn't believe how much the author managed to fit in. The sci-fi concepts behind the book were also very interesting, had never read about concepts like this before. Definitely seems like a very realistic dystopian future in some ways and really makes you appreciate something as simple as human mortality.Background: I typically buy my Kindle books as part of the Kindle Daily Deals and plan them for airplane reading or times when I am away from home and cannot do more exciting or responsible tasks. This means that my standards are not too high and I am looking for books in the beach read category under the fantasy/sci-fi genres. I try to rate fairly on the star scale and personally consider anything 3 stars and up to be fine.

I made the mistake to watch the first series of Netflix's show based on this book before I read it. Also, I deliberately waited for a month or so after I finished the show because I didn't want that experience to interfere with the reading experience. I had done both things wrong. First of all, it's a great show, but that's not what I'm reviewing here. The book is so much better (as always). And because there were really big changes made when it was turned into the show, there is no reason not to enjoy both versions.I thought that the world building is really exceptional here. The whole system and the workings of society are very well thought out. The writing and also the twists and turns in the story elevate this book among the great classics, at least for me. It instantly became one of my all-time-favorites.So I'm planning to read the rest of the series for sure.I recommend this to sci-fi fans and detective story enthusiasts alike. Also, I recommend this to everyone :D

Fabulous book that grab my attention and was just the start of a 7 book series. This book involves Hockey, Hawaii and Reality TV. The book starts with Sydney hired to help find a match for Caleb on a Reality TV Cruise to Hawaii. Sydney and Caleb are given one week before the cruise to enjoy the time and vacation. A connection is made! Unfortunately Caleb still has to go through the 3 weeks of the Reality TV series. I fell in love with the book and the characters! I actually ended up buying the next 6 books in the series and finished them over a 3 day span. I couldn't get enough of the Prescott Family. I would encourage anyone who loves getting to know characters and watching them grow to buy these books. You won't regret it!! I'm not one to buy a lot of books, there are plenty of free books out there to read. But this series left me so entranced that I had to buy them all to see what happens to this family. I'm sad that the series ended and am anxiously waiting for the next book!!!

Caleb Prescott is hockey royalty, but being in the limelight isn't really his thing. So when Sydney Meadows tries to convince him to say yes to a reality show that's a mix of The Love Boat and The Bachelor he'll hear her out to be polite, and then day no. At least that's what he was going to do, but somehow finds himself saying yes instead just to be closer to her. When Sydney goes from casting agent to contestant will she be the last girl standing or will there be trouble in paradise? I really liked this book. It was my first by this author, but definitely not my last.

Do you like series? I do; I love when I can really sink my teeth into book and know there will be more books to come. I especially like when it a series about a family. I like the strong plot line and character development. You get to know Caleb & Sydney in depth while you get introductions to their families which we will learn more about in up coming books.**Could be SPOILER** It was refreshing to read a sports romance where the guys a normal down to earth guy; not the manwhore you normally come across. I'm looking forward to jumping into the rest of this series :)

This was such a sweet story with just enough spice thrown in to make you fan yourself. It had a few twists I wasn’t expecting which kept me turning the pages to find out what would happen next. The author has a wonderful way of painting a picture of not just the story but the characters as well. She writes characters with feeling and heart and I love that. They aren’t perfect, but they acknowledge that. Caleb and Sydney were amazing and if I could tell you my favorite part without it being a spoiler, I would! This is a great read, but so are the rest of her books!

I'm a sucker for a good sports romance. This one passes with flying colors! The sports isn't first and foremost in the story, which is fine, but I loved the little touches, like the Stanley Cup making an appearance towards the end. I would have done the same thing! My husband and I have a major height difference like these characters, so I could totally relate to a lot of situations. I don't want to give too much plot away, but I found myself giggling and smirking through so many parts, especially the Spice Girls reference, since I make that one all the time, and either my husband doesn't get it, out just ignores me by now, ha ha. I bought this book months ago and can't belive it took me so long to read it. It is now in my favorites folder and I can't wait to read more from this author.

I thought that this was a cute story between two people. Caleb was not anywhere near looking for a relationship and neither was Sydney. When their paths cross because of Sydney's job, Caleb is in for a surprise. Caleb never saw himself lusting after a person like Sydney. When Sydney uses her charm to get Caleb to agree to do the reality show, he knows he can't leave Sydney out. There were a few things after this point that bothered me about the book, but I still enjoyed reading it and seeing where the relationship would or wouldn't go between these two. If you're looking for something to suck you in for a while but don't want a huge commitment, then this is a good book for you.

This one was a sweet read but also just an okay read for me. First I am super picky about hockey romances, and this one really fell short on the hockey feel for me. Yes this book takes place mainly in the off season, an off season just after Caleb's team win's the Stanley cup but the books starts off in April and then later picks up in June, leaving a chunk of time left, a chunk of time that could have had some hockey scenes from both POV's written and it could have really made this book actually feel like a hockey romance.Second this book was basically the Bachelor on a boat with Sydney adding a twist to the scenario. And I am a lover of that show but this one truly fell flat for me. I really loved Caleb's character and I loved his family but I truly struggled to enjoy the story, it was kind of cheesy for my liking in parts.Overll just an okay read, glad I pre-purchased and only paid $.99, for that price it wasn't a bad read but for me this one definitely wasn't a sports romance, it was a reality TV romance that the key character was a hockey player but there was no actual hockey feel to the book at all for me.

Found the premise interesting and it solidified my intense dislike of "reality" dating shows!! I really enjoyed Sydney and Caleb's story though more actual hockey would have been nice. The reality tv premise was different though it felt like there was a lot of extraneous material that didn't really advance the story. The Jonny-Jenna storyline was odd...I can only assume that they figure into a future story somehow as there was too much about them without it actually going anywhere to just be happenstance but too little detail with no resolution. Didn't really feed the main storyline so it just kind of hung there.

My main beef with this lovely little book of painting inspiration is the format. Partly my fault that I didn't read the description in its entirety (I follow the artist on instagram and actually saw book previews there and fell in love with it!) But for those like me...the book is positioned "backwards, with essentially 2 front covers. The "book" folds open to reveal a 3-D cardstock pocket on the inside back cover that is velcroed shut and holds a few pieces of watercolor paper. (Quite a bit of a dramatics for such a small stash of paper imo.) This extra frippery means that the actual BOOK portion is about half the size you think it is when you first look at it. What there is, though, is excellent and a fun read. And my favorite part--no blank "pages" scattered throughout masquerading as a how-to/instructional book!While worth the purchase, I am cutting the back envelope thing off to have just the book. It's annoying to open it, and then open the book portion again, for a 3-cover-wide book on my desk while I paint.

Perfect watercolor book for those who love scrolling Instagram for art inspiration. All of the designs are both easy and intricate which is great since I’m a beginner at watercolor but seasoned at art in general. Colors palettes are gorgeous!!! So glad I got this.

It's packed with information and details on how to run remote usability studies, how to know you are doing it right, and even pitfalls to watch out for. I am already putting the information in this book to use.

One can only hope that this book, in the right hands, will result in the broader adoption of rigorous usability testing across the board. Consumers around the globe would benefit. I am operating on the assumption that many product owners do not fully usability test because of the perceived high cost and cumbersome logistics to do so. This book proves that these barriers don’t really exist, and fully educates anyone in the target audience to accomplish an effective study. UX pros can confidently turn to this book for clear, step-by-step instructions for planning and executing a quality remote usability study...as well as to find logical arguments that advocate for doing one.I have a few complaints, not related to content, and my suspicion is that they are attributable to editing/publishing decisions. Without heading numbers, I sometimes failed to keep track of what was a topic, or sub-topic, or sub-sub-topic. There were no callout boxes for visual interest, or to emphasize key takeaways. And some concepts (like the pros and cons of various types of usability studies) would have been better organized into table form - or at least summarized that way. A passionate reader may need to distill the contents into something more digestible “at a glance” to make the case to senior leadership for doing remote usability. That said, the information in the book is clear and accessible enough that I hope they do!!

If you want to dive deep into the nitty-gritty tactical details of running remote usability studies in industry, this is your book. Each chapter guides you through a specific step of the remote research process: there's one for planning & scoping your study, another for recruiting the right participants, individual chapters for executing moderated, unmoderated, and hybrid remote studies, and more on analyzing and presenting research insights after the data has been collected.Research method books may seem like a crowded space, but what makes this one by De Bleecker & Okoroji special is its focus on remote *usability* testing, and nothing else. Great for both seasoned professionals and junior researchers seeking fresh perspectives and ways to expand their research toolkit.One unexpected bonus is that De Bleecker and Okoroji offer plenty of suggestions and insights throughout the book for advocating & defending research findings to people who may be unfamiliar or skeptical with the role and scope of research. My favorite includes how to handle debriefing sessions in Chapter 9: "Thanks! And What Now?", and how to address critiques regarding the study itself.If the book was only about executing remote usability studies, that would already be great. But the practical, actionable advice it gives for communicating those research findings is what keeps me coming back. I keep a copy at my desk and use it as a "cookbook" to reference whenever I have a new study to kick off or wrap up.

The $23 you spend on this iBook will save your company thousands in more productive UX and customer feedback studies. Inge and Rebecca have run hundreds of UX studies and provide great examples, tips, dos and don’ts. If you are even Remotely considering doing a UX study you need to read this book!
