This is an incredible coffee table book based on the Alien and Prometheus saga of films and an absolute must-have. It is a handsomely bound hardcover at just under 170 pages. The outside cover is textured with tiny embossed Weyland-Yutani emblems and has a small slipcover that reaches around the spine to the back. The presentation of the book is absolutely breathtaking. As an Alien fanatic, this is a real treat and a true gem that belongs in any collector's library. We rarely get anything this cool and unique. It is presented as being in-universe, written as if somebody from Weyland-Yutani were to read it. It is filled with little goodies, cutaways, foldouts, and neat material.The premise of the WY Report is that after the events in Alien Resurrection, the company puts together a file of its research backlog regarding the xenomorph, and its relation to the Weyland Corporation (later Weyland-Yutani,) Ripley, and further still, the United Systems Military. To play catch up, the Weyland Corp was founded by Peter Weyland in 2012, Weyland Corp merges with cybernetics rival Yutani in 2099, giving birth to WY as we know it. Nearly 100 years later, the USM is formed, and nearly 250 years later, megacorporations are officially banned, causing Weyland-Yutani to fold. The USM is phased out after the Auriga crashes into planet Earth during the final act of Resurrection, thus giving birth to Weyland-Yutani once more. This is the lead-up to the book.Inside the book are numerous sections, that give a very thorough look into the lore and mythos of the Alien saga. It starts with a timeline, detailing the 2000s up to the 2400s chronologically. Next, there is a section detailing the original Big Chap Alien, codenamed XX121. Its basic life cycle stages are detailed over the course of a few pages. It explains about the Nostromo crew's encounter with the creature, from Kane's attack, to Ash's observations of the facehugger, continuing further to the chestburster, and finally ending with the Drone. The artwork is awesome!! You can tell it's digital but it is very high quality.There is also a section regarding the Queen early on, where WY scientists list their speculations and theories about its life, purpose, hierarchy, etc.The next section concerns "the proud history of Weyland-Yutani," and is aptly-named. It details the formation of the Weyland Corporation in 2012, to its later merger with competitor Yutani in 2099, to everything inbetween. In this section, we learn about David's creation and his legacy for other WY-produced androids, or as the book refers to them as, "artificial persons." We also learn about Call, an artificial person, where after an off-world revolt, escapes a purge where "her" kind were retired in a scheme similar to 1982's "Blade Runner." In this section, we are also educated on WY's great technological feats, such as atmospheric processing, cryostasis, faster-than-light tech, medpods, amongst other items.Continuing further, the next section details the journey of the USCSS Prometheus, to the planetoid LV-223. Crew profiles are listed, the ship itself is broken down and specs are listed, and we get a good look at the Juggernaut ship, piloted by Engineers. There is little information about the Engineers themselves, and some information is "redacted." The redacted parts of the book are holographic and change colors and patterns when you look at them differently. Also in this section, we learn about the black goo, or the "Accelerant," that infects Fifield, and eventually, Dr. Holloway. The creatures encountered on LV-223 get their own pages of info.The next section follows suit and focuses on the USCSS Nostromo and its fateful trip to LV-426 after its crew awaken from stasis on WY company orders. We get some handsome artwork of the vessel itself, and full crew biographies. We also learn about Special Order 937, and WY's regret towards the LV-426 excursion, where they claim "we would have sent a team of 120-A2's," hinting that a team of androids like Ash would have fared better in retrieving a full, unharmed specimen. In this same section we also learn about the quarantine breach initiated by Ash, and going further on, learn about Ripley and her legacy.The next two sections concern the following two films in the Alien series, namely, Aliens, and Alien3. They are all packed with similar diagrams, cutaways, and technical info. The section about Alien 3 has an excerpt of the book "Space Beast" written in-universe by Robert Morse, the only surviving prisoner from Fury 161. There's also a tongue-in-cheek joke about "Vincent," the faceless prisoner referenced in lore but never shown.The last two chapters are about Alien Resurrection and the universe post-A:R. Technical, medical, and scientific benefits of harvesting the xenomorph specimens are shown, and present an interesting look at what could be, were WY to get their evil way.It ends on a hopeful note-- the company is still hoping to harvest an intact xenomorph and reap its powers. This book is an introspective of the franchise, and while some may find this book "too much" to dive into, it presents a tiny window into our favourite film universe, as if we lived in it, and had access to this insider info.I give this book 5/5 stars, and I wish I could rate it more. It is truly an awesome book, especially considering the price. From its sturdy, handsome bind, to its unique and deep look at the Alien saga, Insight Editions knocked this out of the park!I am a host of Perfect Organism, a podcast about the Alien saga. We can be found on Podbean and Facebook! I give this book my blazing recommendation and approval. Passing up on this book is a huge mistake!

This is a good summary of the 4 Alien movies + Prometheus. The original artwork is very well detailed, including cutaways of the dropship and APC from Aliens and full color drawings of each of the main ships from the movies. The Prometheus was rather disappointing, though, as it's drawing was only of the front third or so. They really should have added a cutaway of that ship as well. This book adds a little bit of background info not in the movies, written in universe from the perspective of someone working at Weyland-Yutani. One of the most disappointing aspects of this book, though, is how much technical information was appropriated, uncredited, from the Colonial Marines Tech Manual from about 20 years ago. This included some of the physics of the ships, such as the lithium hydride fuel of the Sulaco. Overall, it could have used more original drawings, such as the ships and the alien pictures, and less of the movie photos.

Yes this book is full of surprises. First off, let me just say SPOILERS! Let me just say that the timeline of events actually surprised me the most. If anyone here are fans of Alien Isolation, then good news. Amanda Ripley's adventures from that game was referenced in the timeline of events. Making that game canon to the films. The other thing that gave me the big surprise was the year 2219 AD in the timeline of events in this book. Here's why! The company(Weyland-Yutani) sent the ships "Geryon" and "Kadmos" to LV-223 in the year 2219 AD but contact was terminated. The reason why I'm surprised by this is because this book is referencing the events that happened in the Fire and Stone Comic. What is Fire and Stone you ask? Its a Comic Crossover Franchise Event that involves the franchises Prometheus, Aliens, AVP and Predator. In the Comic Prometheus Fire and Stone, it shows the ships Geryon and Kadmos on a mission to LV-223 led by Captain Angela Foster in the year 2219 AD. Okay that's enough spoilers. If you want to know about Fire and Stone, just buy the book Prometheus the Complete Fire and Stone Hardcover. Its available here on Amazon. I highly recommend reading that book. This book also mentioned names and places from novels. An example of this is LV-178. Which was featured in the novel Alien out of the shadows. Captain Brackett from Aliens River Of Pain was also mentioned in this book. This makes those novels canon to the films. What is not mentioned in this book are the events of the AVP Films and the game Aliens Colonial Marines. To be fair, the AVP Films was canon to the Alien Films. But those Films are contradicted by Ridley Scott's Prometheus Film and the timeline of events mentioned in this book. The director(Paul Anderson) of the first AVP Film mentioned in the making of AVP that after Charles Bishop Weyland's death, his company Weyland Industries was taken over by Yutani Corporation in modern times. This would mean Ms Yutani in AVPR was the head of Weyland-Yutani Corporation in modern times. This is however contradicted by the Films Prometheus since the movie shows that Weyland Corporation hasn't merged yet with Yutani Corporation. And Prometheus takes place on LV-223 in the year 2093 AD. This book further contradicts this by saying Weyland Corporation merged Yutani Corporation in the year 2099 AD. Lets also mentioned the Fire and Stone Comic Event seeing Dark Horse Comics also doesn't consider the AVP Films canon with their current comics of Alien, Prometheus, Predator and AVP. Bottomline AVP is non canon to the Alien Films. As for Aliens Colonial Marines being non canon to the Alien Films, lets just say non of the events in that game was mentioned in this book. So its also non canon to the Alien Films. Thank You 20th Century Fox for making things right. I can go on and on telling what I read in this book. But that would be revealing way too much. So I'll stop the review right here. I have no regrets buying this book. If this book however becomes non canon, so what? To me this was still a fun read and I highly recommend this book. This deserves a 5 out of 5.

Overall the content is decent, but Time has given this book a black eye. Some of the companies touted as models to follow are in dire straits now or went out of business. Fannie Mae, praised as one of the banks to go Good to Great, has fallen into the trash heap since 2008 and has never recovered. This happened 7 years after the book was written. Circuit City, another Good to Great, doesn't even exist anymore, at least by name and as a brick-n-mortar store. Wells Fargo, a good to great awardee, aren't so noble anymore given their recent scandals. In the 2010's, Wells Fargo perpetrated some of the poor behaviors the book claimed they avoided through the 80's and 90's which led them to Great. The book is VERY well researched in its time frame, but a lot of it in my opinion is antiquated. 90% of the data is taken from the pre-Internet era, the ball field is much different now. Some of the points are valid and helpful, some are senseless. I did glean a few nuggets from the book that made it worth my time, but 1/3 of the way through this book I dreaded finishing it. You'd be better reading Simon Sinek's Start With Why.

This is the first business book I've ever read, so I'm not very famillar with the genre, but I enjoyed this. I am not interested in being a CEO or anything like that, but I liked this book because many of the concepts talked about can be applied to my own life. I saw this as more of a general self improvement book that used businesses as examples of concepts, rather than a book solely about business.

This book has been on my list for quite a while and now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! Jim Collins and his team provide some fantastic insights that aren't just based upon a popular fad opinion, but are actually backed up by studies.If you are a leader or desire to be one, this is a must read. He speaks to much more than just trends, but to actual character. As a fairly charismatic person, I found it interesting to see some of the downsides of charisma. I really appreciated his approach to discussing the power of clarity and consistency.Now that I've read the book, I see it's themes running through so many other books like, "Start With Why". This is a classic and I can not recommend it highly enough.

Wow. My husband was reading this for professional development, and we started reading it together. I am a nurse and have no experience in business, but this book was so relevant to every aspect of life. Very interesting concepts, and a good read. Even if you're not in the business sector I strongly suggest this book for a really interesting perspective on how to approach all aspects of life (as these findings apple to everything)!.

Jim Collins presents many interesting business concepts throughout Good to Great. The research conducted for this book is complicated however Collins simplifies the process to more clearly explain why some things were included or omitted. Through the research, many concepts are presented and then emphasized using comparisons between two similar companies. At times the transformation of a specific company solely based on use of the concepts seems hard to believe. However Collins does give enough evidence to support the importance of the concepts to be used as tools to help the company transition from good to great. The concept being the most important in my opinion was having upper management to be brutally honest. Many companies fail to face the facts and it's easy to see in this book the consequences. The book was published about 15 years ago and since then one of the “great” companies has gone out of business (Circuit City) and another one is currently in trouble (Wells Fargo). So it is interesting to analyze what concepts the companies stopped implementing that made them so successful years ago. Overall this book was an interesting and easy to understand read that appeals to not just those in upper management, but also to those who want to know what can make a company great.

A wonderful anthology on the right and necessary steps a growing concern must continue to take if they are to remain viable in todays society and ready for the future.. As a CEO, you must be above the fray of everyday operations and keep a keen eye on the future and potential innovations. For example, when Sears gave up the catalog in the early 1990's, the potential of the internet was just beginning to raise its capacity to greatly influence a new way of doing business. If the Sears executives had not been so busy trying to save a buck and give up the catalog, maybe it could have retained its millions of dedicated shoppers and innovated along the lines of the internet that we know today as Amazon.Bezos, of Amazon, was a hedge fund manager in the late 1980's. How did he become some a relevant whole seller with a revolutionary way of delivery in the late 90's. This is the clear message that I got from Good To Great. You must be willing to boldly assault the future and at the same time question if this is the right way to go. That way your organizations will not become complacent and our managerial core will be a group of activists and futurists. That's how you keep going from Great To Even Greater. Good To Great is fine. But now you must take the next step.

It's hard to know what to say about this book. People love it, and love what it says, but several of the companies profiled turned out to be cooking their books, cheating customers, etc... Wells Fargo, Sallie Mae, GE... So I'm left wondering, were these companies extraordinarily successful because of the processes and ideas presented in the book, or was their extraordinary success based on cheating. I just can't take the book's advice seriously given the track record of several of the companies studied. Maybe if you're passionate about being the best, and you want to be the best in the world, and make tons of money doing it [your hedgehog]- you break the rules to get ahead?? Not the advice I'm looking for....

Loved this book so much! I was giggling so much on the bus when Venus is swearing with all these hilarious references to Hermes' flaming as and Hera's freezing tits! The sex part is a bit corny with so many references to the phallus lol but loved the simplicity! Greek mythology has always been my fantasy. Great escape from the real world.

All of P.C. Cast's other books earned four or five stars in my opinion however this one felt a little rushed, perhaps because there were two rather quick love stories going on in here rather than one well developed one. I was disappointed with Venus's romantic interest, he seemed shallow and focused more on appearance than depth. From the beginning he ignored the plain girl and was immediately drawn to the incomparable beauty of Venus. I won't go to much into detail because I don't want to spoil any of the story, but he wasn't a character I liked or could feel any sort of sympathy for and frankly he got a way better deal than he deserved. As for Pea, her story wasn't really the focus of the book and seemed more like a sideline, I really wanted to hear more about her and her love interest. The two "beautiful people" story bores me because it has been done so much it's a cliche. The ending is predictable from about a third of the way through the book, but as long as it is a happy one I don't usually mind that. Some characters are introduced but not rounded out and one is never seen again after the beginning of Pea's story. They say the devil is in the details so to sum up, this book lacked a whole lot of detail which would have made the story more engaging, the characters more likable and dynamic and the story far more rich. Still, I gobbled it up and enjoyed it as what it is, an entertaining afternoon read with just a touch too much fluff and not enough substance. I will still eagerly await her next book and pre-order it as always.

Goddess of Love is really two love stories in one, which is where I think the author PC Cast went wrong. The couples are Venus and Griffen and Pea and Vulcan. Venus is the Goddess of Love and Vulcan the God of Fire. They married each other, but it is a marriage in name only. Pea invokes Venus' aid to help her win her crush Griffen, local Fire Captain. Unfortunately, Venus and Griffen spark instead of Pea and Griffen. Vulcan is looking for a replacement so he can go to the constellations. He sees Pea and immediately feels a kinship with her.In my opinion, Vulcan and Pea story should have been the main focus. Who cares if the Goddess of Love find love? Isn't that her whole purpose? The few times Cast wrote from Vulcan's perspective where the most enjoyable parts of the book. I really liked his character and I think the author should have flushed him out and made him even more real. Unfortunately, he is the character given the least amount of time.Pea was so-so. She was supposed to be Plain Jane, but in reality she was just clueless about herself and all that needed to be done was for her to quit brushing her hair. I do not have curly hair, but even I know you don't brush it. Seriously? No one has ever told Pea not to brush her hair in her 30 so years of life? The beginning of the book she was seriously whiny and insecure, suddenly she has an epiphany and she is Miss Confidence with a side of Seduction. She was a much more enjoyable character afterwards.Venus was shallow. I also found it really hard to get around the fact that half of her conversations where either cursing the gods private parts or asking about orgasms. I also find it really hard to comprehend how the Goddess of Love has never been in love.Griffen was also so-so. It is hard to like a guy who can't remember Plain Jane Pea even though he met her three times the same day.Overall, Goddess of Love is an uncomplicated story lacking in complex characters and dialogue. This is an excellent choice for the book that you don't want to concentrate to hard on. If you are looking for depth and characters you can sink your teeth into, try again.

This started out as a great read, a young lady without fashion sense falls for a gorgeous fireman. Then we have the Lady of Love, Venus, come to help her find her self and get togather with our hunky hero. Unfortunately this is not what happens.Pea Chamberlin is a wonder at her job and at her hobby, dancing. She just can not bring the ability for decorating her home to herself. She has had a crush on a fireman for a yr. When she is around him she constantly looses her cool and stupid embarrassing things happen.Venus, our Goddess, is bored, she is bored with her life and her marriage of convenience with the God Vulcan. While visiting Earth she is summoned by Pea. Hera has interfered with a spell and so Venus can not return to Olympus until she helps Pea get her man.Griffin DeAngelo is a fireman, he has helped raise four sisters and seen them thorough marriages and divorces and does not find the thought of finding one woman very appealing.Vulcan is tired of living with the disdain of the other Gods, he has a limp and so hides himself away in the dark deep caverns of Olympus.I looked forward to the way VEnus would help Pea and be able to finally see the wonderful man (God) she had married. This is not what happened. Let me only say I was disappointed in the book and I would wait until it came out in reg paperback if I decided I had to read it.Venus is just not a very easy character to make likeable and caring; she is beautiful, can have anyone mortal or immortal she desires. Yet we are to believe she had rather be seduced by a mortal than loved by a God.Vulcan was easy to like and you feel a profound desire for him to be happy. Although this happens in the book, the way it happens and how it happens somehow disturbed me.Griffin is supposed to be not just a fireman but a sculptor. He is however, to my overview very full of himself.I don't know why I didn't like the way things worked out but I think it would have been a better book if Griffin and Pea had found each other and if Venus and Vulcan could have fallen in love.I would definitely not buy this book in this size or for this price again. I do not think I will ever want to read it again. My advice is either wait or pass on this one.

Personally, I don't even want to add a star up there in posting a review. Please don't buy this book, as it's a total misrepresentation of history. The protagonist in this book is a Japanese girl who lived in the northern part of Korea with her family in 1945. The book doesn't address anything about why her family lives in Korea in the first place and then retells the harrowing experience of her escape only after decades of adult life but does not fully describe the context of the setting. She conveniently skips the fact that her parents were imperialist occupants and that her father was a war criminal. Under the Japanese occupation, Koreans were faced with discrimination, persecution, inferior treatment, forced medical experiment, forced sex slavery, forced military draft to fight for Japan and resistance was met with execution and captivity. In fact, my maternal grandfather was jailed for participating in the resistance and died within 6 months of release due to physical punishment and deterioratIng health. This was when he was only 41 years of age. There is a justified reason as to why Koreans and Chinese still linger pain and agony from this period. There's a reference of bamboo trees in the cover illustration and the title, but honestly, there are not many bamboo trees in Korea, especially north because the ideal climate is in the southern region. There may be truth to her story of the ugly side of war but when the war was over, Korea wanted all the occupants out and no harm was done as they left. While the Nazi members and sympathizers were punished and the story of Jewish Holocaust retold to the world, the victims of horrendous killings and torture, rape and persecution by Koreans and China are not. To this day, many Japanese military ranks are still honored in their enshrined tombs even though they have been found guilty as war criminals. Would it be all right if the story was told from a girl of a Nazi family as the victim and Jews as the perpetrater? It's outrageous and only diminishes the atrocities Japanese have done in the past.This book is NOT appropriate for middle schoolers as it only confuses kids and promotes racial bias and hate toward Koreans.

This book was banned in Korea and China, and some of the State Boards of Education. Maryland and California pulled it from their required reading list for their 6th and 7th graders. Is this book worth reading? Judge it for yourself.1. First, this book speaks about a young girl being raped.Hardly seems an appropriate subject for 6th or 7th graders.2. Though it is classified as a "historical fiction" and therefore, it is allowed some elaboration, the history is so distorted in this book, particularly the roles of Japan and Japanese during WWII. The main character, a young Japanese girl, whose family flees Korea at the end of WWII, is raped by a Korean man. The book implies that it was not uncommon for Korean men to rape Japanese women. Highly improbable and disputable. Come on, just because it is a fiction does not mean it has to be a fantasy!3. After reading, some 6th and 7th grade students expressed anti-Korean sentiments, and some Korean-American students refused to return to school for feeling shame about their ethnicity based on how this book portrayed the Koreans. This book retaliates against another race and builds racial hatred.INTERESTING IRONY:During WWII, Japan "took" out of Korea tens-of-thousands of girls, some as young as 10-year-old to their soldiers in Japan and greater Asia as "comfort women", who were forced into prostitution. Many of them died of syphilis or committed suicide, and the survivors never returned to their families after the war because of the utter humiliation and psychological damage. Japan still claims that these "women" (not "girls") were voluntary prostitutes.

This book was not appropriate for middle school students. I don't know why the school board assigned it for summer reading!

This book taught me so many things, such as the factual history, the racial difference, survival ways, the importance of peace. There are a few comments in the notes from publisher, which many historians cannot agree with because, I assume, they have not updated some historical facts, and the book is a lack of a literary touch for adults, but it is well worth reading.

I read this book about 20 or 25 years ago when the "Troubles" in Ireland were still a big, tragic mess. Thank God that's pretty much history (or at least appears to be). It's an enlightening read about the lousy situation the Catholics in Ulster faced, what it was like to grow up in that, how the mess developed over time, how the authorities often did the absolute wrong thing, and how ordinary people almost naturally and necessarily became radicalized. Taking human nature as something relatively constant and transposing the ingredients to any other place and time, we get a pretty disturbing picture of the possibilities. Or put in another way, you can extract some general principles from the Irish troubles, look around the world, change a few terms such as Ulster to Kenya or the Balkans, and the underlying patterns are pretty consistent. It's all too explicable. It amazes me that this Enlightenment notion of the perfectibility of human nature wasn't among the millions killed off by Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin and our other 20th Century greats. In his 1962 Nobel Prize acceptance speech John Steinbeck said, "I hold that a writer who does not passionately believe in the perfectibility of man has no dedication nor any membership in literature." What a fool.

McCann's book is a brilliant look at the Troubles and the impact on his home town of Derry. Far too often, all we see of the troubles is stone throwing youths or bombs going off in Britain, with no explaination of how it got to this point. McCann shows brilliantly the historical context from which the troubles were spawned, and in doing so demolishes completely the myth of two tribes with no common ground. Essential reading for anyone interested in learning more about the politics of Northern Ireland.

This is an enjoyable way to learn Norwegian by the use of pictures and stickers. I find it a useful adjunct to my other Norwegian books. I find it better to have a few different books read in parallel to provide interest and novelty and to tempt me to keep the glacier of progress moving. Learning any language is to me is also like traversing a vast ocean. The main thing is to keep sailing and not sink or return to shore defeated. Some of us are strongly visual while others are aural and others kinaesthetic in our learning. A mixture of approaches appeals to me more than one sense and this book is mostly visual as I am.

anyone who thinks that learning a new language is hard is dead wrong. people should remember that this is the 21st century and more is understood about how the human brain takes in and stores information . the book give the reader A SCIENTIFIC METHOD OF LEARNING A LANGUAGE, this is why although you need only ten a day to become confident enough in any language in about month to wing it on your own anywhere without a guide , but also carry on a conversation outside that of the common tourist to native chat that takes place. you will find yourself advancing so fast that you will spend more than ten minutes because the method is fun and ingages the whole brain . i struggled wth portuguese a long time before this book , dont make the costly mistake of buying courses that use primitive outdated methods get this book . and if you wish to go deeper pimsleur cd coureses are cheap and VASTLY SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHERS.

First and foremost is the fact that I cannot use the CD rom on my macbook. It is supposed to be Mac compatible however it is not compatible with the latest updated version apparently. Luckily, I have access to a Mac desktop which has not been updated for several years. It does work on that one although it's not as convenient for me to do the lessons on that computer. The book is attractive but the way some of the lessons are designed are somewhat unproductive in my opinion. The CD rom has some very nice activities which I enjoy very much but they are limited to only a few subjects. I wish there was a lot more information on the disc in the same formula because otherwise they are a very fun way to learn. Basically this set is still a good purchase if used in conjunction with other methods as a supplement.

I reviewed this book once before and I said it was a difficult language to learn. I have upgraded my review because now I am speaking some short sentences. It would have been great if this came with the audio cd's like 10 min german.There are so-o-o- many grammar rules and sounds we do not use in English so this is a language that has to be 'heard' to get it.I got a lot of help off you tube,there is a lady on there who does page by page of this book.and then there are different dialects. all in all I do like it very much but I do spend a lot more than 10 minutes a day learning.I would give this 5 stars if it came with audio cd's

This is at a basic level but even with some knowledge already I have found it useful revision, and fun. The CD is good for listening practice and pronunciation and the workbook offers lots of practical aids like sticky labels, study aids and other useful things like traffic signs, menu guides and conversions. I like the way that the new words you learn are then incorporated into the text and instructions but you are never left without the translations or help with correct pronunciation, which helps build confidence. You build on earlier learning, but are not left floundering by around page 5 as with so many other language learning books. You'll get much more from a trip to Norway if you've spent 10 minutes a day on this, and you'll have fun doing it. Of course you won't get much chance to practice in Norway because most people love to show off their excellent English, but you'll be able to read signs and menus and timetables, and hear the words and phrases you have learned spoken around you, and if you are lucky you'll find people who will let you practice! The "10 minutes a day" series is a simple, straight to the point workbook system that when used daily really does work. I have used their Spanish and Portuguese workbooks and both gave me what I needed to go from not speaking a word to being able to speak enough to dive into the real world. Day by day the lessons introduce you to basic vocabulary. The lessons help you quickly learn basic grammatical structure and key questions that will help you learn to navigate through everyday travel scenarios. The sticky labels are very effective at effortlessly increasing your vocabulary. Everytime you look at or pick up any labeled object in your house you automatically see the word written in the new language so that you can't help but add the items that you need and use everyday to your new vocabulary. I also found these workbooks to be really helpful when used in conjunction with programs like Rosetta Stone.

I ordered this for my husband, at his request. He likes it because he can select the order of what he is studying. I use the free Duolingo product, online, that requires me to follow "their" order of sequence, which I admit is irksome. Duolingo is not geared toward travelers and their conversational needs, but just to a general language learning process. However, I am plodding along with it, anyway. My husband likes the Norwegian in 10 minutes a day and intends to keep using it until we leave for Norway later in the summer. He has not yet tried the CD, just the workbook. We hope that together we will be able to understand menus and prices and the like, and be polite when spoken to.

This book is a great learning tool for learning the foundation of a language. I am fluent in Norwegian, however, my girlfriend is not. I bought this because from the looks of it, it is a basic foundation which she or anyone needs to know. The phrases you learn are the basic which may sound different to a Norwegian, but they get what you mean and from what you learn in the book, it is a fantastic jump. The vocabulary in the book is very important to learn to expand your learning of the language- or any language for that matter. I recommend this book for another learning tool- but make sure you have more resources than this book!
